This week I am attending the Death Down Under Conference in Dunedin. In association with the University of Canterbury and University of Sydney, the University of Otago is hosting the second conference for death studies.
The conference aims to promote the dissemination of social aspects of death studies research in Australia, New Zealand, and the wider Pacific region. DDU 2012 will showcase the research being undertaken in the areas of death, dying and bereavement throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The two-day conference will provide a forum for academics, practitioners and professionals to share their research and experience, and to develop networks that can lead to collaborative research endeavours.
It will be interesting to see what emerges from this conference, whether there will be predictions of change in our attitude towards death as we consider our environmental legacy and seek the authentic experience – taking care of our own now and in the future.
