Old St Paul’s

Old St Paul’s

Designed by Rev. Frederick Thatcher and constructed entirely from native timbers, Old St Paul’s opened in 1866 and is an example of Gothic Revival architecture.

As the former cathedral, Old St Paul’s has served generations of Wellington families for their celebrations and ceremonies. With its warm native timber interior, beautiful stained glass windows and attentive staff, it is a welcoming, non-denominational venue.

Also used for weddings and concerts, there is seating for up to 460 people. The acoustics are superb with a grand piano and organ for approved musicians. It has an excellent sound and audiovisual set-up.

For a more intimate or private gathering, families can use the choir stalls in front of the altar, which seat 50.

Though not possible on site, there are several other venue options within easy walking distance equipped with facilities, including: Loaves & Fishes Hall at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, Royal Society of New Zealand on Turnbull Street, Thistle Inn on Mulgrave Street or Home Café at the National Library.
